چکیده

Tube models derived from the basic ideas of De Gennes and Doi & Edwards on reptation of entangled chains have made tremendous progress in the past 30 years and have now reached a quantitative level for the prediction of linear viscoelasticity of linear polymers. After a concise reminder of key experimental features of dynamic moduli, we first review the fundamental ingredients of quantitative tube models: reptation, contour length fluctuations and constraint release, as well as some important modifications that are proving essential in difficult cases, such as the “StruglinskiGraessley criterion” or the “constraint release Rouse” regime. The main models published since the origin of the theory are next briefly described and compared. They can be classified in two major categories, those derived from the Doi-Edwards theory built on the original reptation concept and those derived from the Milner-McLeish theory, which considers linear chains as two-arms stars able to reptate. We further review published comparisons between experimental data and model predictions for various systems, comprising monodisperse, polydisperse and bidisperse polymers. The latter are the most difficult to predict because they emphasize complex interactions between the relaxation mechanisms. Hence they highlight the current limitations of the models, in particular the influence of constraint release mechanisms on reptation and fluctuations.

An Enhanced Finite Element method for Two Dimensional Linear Viscoelasticity using Complex Fourier Elements

In this paper, the finite element analysis of two-dimensional linear viscoelastic problems is performed using quadrilateral complex Fourier elements and, the results are compared with those obtained by quadrilateral classic Lagrange elements. Complex Fourier shape functions contain a shape parameter which is a constant unknown parameter adopted to enhance approximation’s accuracy. Since the iso...

پیش‌بینی جریان و انتقال حرارت در کانال‌های ریب‌دار سه بعدی توسط مدل‌های ?-K خطی و غیرخطی

The present paper deals with the prediction of three-dimensional fluid flow and heat transfer in rib-roughened ducts of square cross-section. Such flows are of direct relevance to the internal cooling system of modern gas turbine blades. The main objective is to assess how a recently developed variant of a cubic non-linear model (proposed by Craft et al. (1999)), that has been shown to produce ...

A Stick-Slip/Rouse Hybrid Model for Viscoelasticity in Polymers

A Rouse model for polymer chains is incorporated into the linear continuous stickslip molecular-based tube reptation ideas of Doi-Edwards and Johnson-Stacer. This treats the physically constrained (PC) molecular stretches as internal strain variables for the overall PC/chemically cross-linked (CC) system. It yields an explicit system of stress-strain equations for the system permitting simple c...

In-silico prediction of Cellular Responses to Polymeric Biomaterials from Their Molecular Descriptors

In this work quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) methodology was applied for modeling and prediction of cellular response to polymers that have been designed for tissue engineering. After calculation and screening of molecular descriptors, linear and nonlinear models were developed by using multiple linear regressions (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN) methods. The root m...

The Effect of Linear Change of Tube Diameter on Subcooled Flow Boiling and Critical Heat Flux

One of the major industry problems is the flow boiling, where reaching to the critical heat flux (CHF) condition can lead to a temperature jump and damage of the systems. In the present study, the effects of a uniform change in tube diameter on subcooled flow boiling and CHF was numerically investigated. The Euler-Euler model was used to investigate the relationship between the two liquid and v...
